Two of our canned pét nat ciders have been named amongst the top ciders of 2023 in Cider Review’s review of the year.
The single-variety Yarlington Mill was included in Jack Toye’s Top 7, and the single-variety Somerset Redstreak was included in James Finch’s Top 3. Understandably, we are somewhat amazed, and totally over the moon, about this recognition of our cider. To have one of the cans in the contributors’ top picks would have been wonderful, but to have two of them in there is pretty spectacular. Thank you so much to Jack and to James.
We released these single-variety canned ciders in the autumn of 2023 – here’s a news article we wrote at the time – and have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback we’ve received. The cans are something of a first (as far as we know) as we canned the cider live, and so the carbonation is purely natural. They have a soft mousse with lovely fine bubbles – a naturally sparkling (pét nat) fizz – which is created by the carbon dioxide produced by in-can fermentation.
Even though the Kingston Black didn’t have the honour of a mention in the lists of Cider Review’s top ciders, we do have a number of customers who tell us it’s their particular favourite, so, as always, what makes a top cider is very much a matter of personal taste. Being live ciders, the flavours will still be developing slightly too, so what might not have been your favourite cider when you first tried it, might become your new favourite a few weeks later. We real-cider geeks really do know how to have fun, don’t we?!
