Single variety ciders

Temple Cider’s new single variety ciders

Single variety ciders are some of our favourite ciders. There is something so satisfying about tasting just one variety of apple in the form of a cider. Blends can be wonderful, but for the nerdy apple-obsessed purist there is nothing more exciting than single varieties. Speaking personally, with a blended cider, it’s impossible to turn off that part of my brain that is trying to work out which apple variety a particular element of the aroma, flavour and mouthfeel is coming from. This is especially frustrating if you have no idea which apple varieties went into the blend.

It is due to our love of single varieties that we decided to start to put more varieties into small bottles, in tiny batches, with the intention of gradually growing the range. The beauty of being an artisan cider maker is that we can be flexible with the fruit we pick and what we do with it. For some of our single varieties, the fruit will have come from just one old tree. All the fruit is hand-harvested from the ground, by us, so we have the flexibility to use as many different varieties as we have available and have time to harvest.

Single variety ciders released

At the time of writing, we have released four of our new range of single varieties. Due to the tiny batches involved, we have decided to use partly-handwritten labels. The label writing is quite time consuming, but at least it doesn’t have to be done outside in an orchard in cold, damp weather – unlike the harvesting!

Our first four releases are:

  • Kingston Black 2024 – a still dry cider, 7.3%
  • Morgan Sweet 2025 – a dry, sparkling cider, 7.4%
  • Major 2024 – a medium-dry, lightly sparkling cider, 7.4%
  • Camelot 2025 – a still, dry cider, 6.6%

These are each available from our webshop in cases of twelve, or as a Single Variety Mixed Case. Or you can select them as part of a Cider mixed case – pick your own selection.

We are particularly excited about the Camelot as this is very rarely seen as a single variety, and we hope to have more ciders ready to release soon. Keep an eye on our webshop!
