Love a whisky barrel aged cider? We currently have two Whisky Barrel Aged ciders available, in 500ml bottles, which are very popular at Christmas time.
As well as being perfect for sipping on a cold winter evening, they also, as we often say, go beautifully with a slab of fruit cake or a mince pie. They are still ciders and have been aged in our cider shed, for at least 3 months, in casks freshly emptied of whisky.
The first, our original Whisky Barrel Aged cider is still, unsweetened, 7.4% abv, and made from bittersweet and bittersharp cider apples. The casks used for aging this cider are from Speyside, resulting a smooth cider with a subtle but distinctive warming whisky finish.
The second is our Islay Whisky Barrel Aged cider. This is also still, unsweetened, 7.4% abv, and made from bittersweet and bittersharp cider apples. The casks used for aging this cider are freshly emptied Staoisha (heavily peated) Islay whisky casks. There is a lot going on in this complex, smoky cider, and it really comes into its own when sipped by the fire on a cold evening.
As with all of our ciders, the apples were harvested by hand from the ground, in unsprayed local orchards, when at peak ripeness. They were carefully sorted so that only the very best, undamaged fruit was used, and of course it was thoroughly washed before pressing.
